Lady Bug is small beetle and its size ranges from 0.8 to 18 mm. Lady Bug has got many names like Ladybirds, Lady beetles.
Lady bug in agriculture act as predators that prey on aphids or scale insects, which are agricultural pests that eat plant sap and cause huge damage to the crops. Hence they are called as friendly insects.
Lady bugs lay eggs in aphid colonies in order to ensure their larvae get immediate food source. The eggs are laid mainly underside of the leaves which are not easily seen.
The new babies that comes out of the eggs grows long and becomes dark in larvae stage. Lady bugs starts attacking aphids from its larvae stage itself. Sometimes 2-3 larvae attack one aphid. While growing big the markings on the larvae change.
A fully grown adult lady bug comes in many different colours and patterns. Commonly seen in yellow, orange and red colours with shiny small black spots on their wing covers. Its wing shields are hard protecting soft thin second wings underneath. These beeetles will have black legs, head and antennae. They have elleptical, dome shaped body with six short sized legs like any other insect. Depending on the species they'll have spots, stripes or even no markings.
Lady bug crawls and fly to another leaf or branch and doesn’t take much longer time to find its food, aphids. It likes to crawl to the highest point and take a fly with its second wings to reach another place for food.
